The Board of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology has adopted a Code of Conduct that is binding for all ISE events:
All members of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (or attendees of the Society’s events) are required to follow the Society’s Code of Conduct for Meetings. This includes, but is not limited to, any Society conference, other meeting, function, event, or professional activity. Behaviour of the Society’s members reflects on the reputation of the Society and should create a safe and professional atmosphere free of harassment, stalking, threats, abusive conduct and bullying whether physical or verbal. Any member or attendee participating in these unwanted behaviours risks expulsion (without refund) from the event and the Society as well as further consequences including the involvement of local law enforcement.
Society members (and attendees of Society’s events) are expected to:
- Fully respect and actively support the diversity we represent including ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, civil union or marital status, age, citizenship status, disability, pregnancy, ancestry medical condition or any other personal characteristic. Harassment on any of these grounds will not be tolerated.
- Not sexually harass another in the form of unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature whether physical or verbal that includes, but is not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favours.
- Present research and statements on other cultures or individuals in a respectful manner. Freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly and association are a core foundation of all academic activities. Critical assessments and research on wider societal / cultural matters are of course, welcome. However, the respect of an individual’s rights, privacy and personal views is paramount.
- Enable oral and poster presentations to be conducted in such a way that the speakers / presenters can fully express their thoughts. Purposeful disruptions will not be tolerated.
- Not record or transmit audio, video, or images of oral or poster presentations without author approval.
- Speak up if a member (or event attendee) has done or is doing something that is against the Society’s Code of Conduct or Guidelines on Ethics and support the member who is raising the complaints*. Retaliation will not be tolerated.
*After reporting the complaint to the president and a senior member of the organizing committee necessary steps will be undertaken to resolve the situation (contact information can be found on the Society website or at the registration desk at meetings).
