19th International Congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Dresden, Germany, June 12-14, 2019

Ethnopharmacology – bridging cultures and continents

The congress was dedicated to

“Ethnopharmacology – bridging cultures and continents”

The mission statement of the Technische Universität Dresden, which is one of the eleven universities of excellence in Germany,  is “Wissen schafft Brücken” (knowledge creates bridges). This comprises a sophisticated strategy for internationalization thereby bridging continents and cultures.

ISE 2019 brought together 165 renowned scientists from four continents and 35 countries. The congress reached its aims and increased the knowledge on traditional medicinal products and on compounds originating from the diet. Special emphasis was given to research on the efficacy and safety in medical and healthcare applications. This comprised state-of-the-art pharmacology, knowledge of the molecular mode of action, advanced chemistry and the exploitation of the role of natural compounds in drug discovery and (bio)material sciences.

On the last day of the congress, special emphasis was given to the needs for ethnopharmacological work in Africa. This program part also bridged the 19th International Congress of the ISE to the consecutive 4th International Alumni Symposium of the School of Science of the Technische Universität Dresden.
